About Mark Levine

I love domain names and have since I first started investing in them in the early 2000’s. Domaining involves following trends, pop culture, technology and then mixing all of them with investment strategies similar to those used in the stock market or real estate. Plus, you get to own really cool digital assets that you can develop, sell or just hold.

Until August 2016, domaining was something I was only able to do after work and on the weekends. And, because of some hard work and good timing, I get to be one of those people lucky enough to do what he loves.

From 2006-2016 I was the CEO / Founder of Hillcrest Media Group, a book publishing company I started following the success of a book I wrote about the self-publishing industry in 2004. That book, The Fine Print of Self-Publishing eventually led to another five editions, 30 employees, and helping authors publish more than 11,000 titles.

In August 2016, I sold Hillcrest to Salem Media Group (NASDAQ: SALM). The decision to sell was a difficult one as I cherished working with the best team of inventive, driven, and dedicated employees any business owner could ever hope to have. We created some cutting edge publishing technology that helped us compete against companies hundreds of times bigger than us. It was exciting and we became a quirky work family. Being the CEO of Hillcrest Media was the greatest honor of my professional life. And, after 10 years, it was time for me to move on. Sometimes you just know.

Prior to Hillcrest, I was the CEO/Founder of Click Industries, an online business filing company for 10 years. I sold Click in 2009 (for three years I was CEO of two companies in two totally different industries. If that’s on your bucket list, let’s talk. It was tough). It was at Click where I really learned about domain investing and how to use domains to drive customers to my business.

I started Domain Theory LLC in 2010 as a domain name holding and development company my book publishing company. Between my two entities we owned and developed some pretty great domain names, including Published.com, BookPrinting.com, and BookEditing.com. But those cool names and sites were all acquired by the buyer of my company. Domain Theory still retains hundreds of premium book publishing related domains (well, I sold Fiction.com in August 2017, but I still have some gems, just not the Hope Diamond any longer). In addition to domain names in the publishing space, I also invest in short, brandable domains (mostly .com), keyword rich names and one-word IO’s, CO’s, AI’s and GG’s.

If you’re still reading this and want to talk domains, I’m in. Whether you’re a long-time domain investor or a newbie, feel free to reach out. I’m excited to share what I’ve learned and how I approach domain investing. Domaining is part art and part science, so every investor and investment strategy is like a snowflake -- unique. I will probably learn something from you and hopefully you’ll learn something from me. That is what makes this so much fun. Let’s connect.
